Alex Hammond-Chambers

Chairman of the Board, Director

Alex's career has been involved with portfolio management and investment trusts, from which he brings – inter alia – experience and understanding of investment policies, strategies, stock selection and risk management.

Alex joined the Board in 2002. He worked for Ivory & Sime for 27 years as an investment trust manager and then as executive chairman before retiring as chairman in 1991. He is chairman and a director of a number of other investment companies.

He has served as a chairman of the Association of Investment Companies and as a governor of the NASD (NASDAQ).

William Salomon


William has been a director of Hansa Trust plc since 1999 and, through his interests in a family trust as well as direct share ownership, has a significant, long standing, investment in the Company. William is a vocal proponent of the Company’s long term growth strategy.

William’s experience in investment banking and management is important to the Board in developing and monitoring investments in special investment themes and in the Company’s strategic investment in Wilson Sons.  

William is the senior partner of Hansa Capital Partners LLP (the Portfolio Manager and Company Secretary), deputy chairman of Ocean Wilsons Holdings Limited and its listed subsidiary Wilson Sons Limited. He is also a shareholder representative on the Investment Advisory Committee for DV4 Limited. William was formerly the Vice Chairman of Close Asset Management Limited and Chairman of the Merchant Bank Rea Brothers. William was born in 1957 and is both a German and British citizen.


Jonathan Davie

Chairman of the Audit Committee, Director

Jonathan joined the Board in January 2013. He is a nonexecutive director of Persimmon and chairman of First Avenue Partners, an alternatives advisory boutique.

Jonathan qualified as a Chartered Accountant and then joined George M. Hill and Co. and became an authorised dealer on the London Stock Exchange. The firm was acquired by Wedd Durlacher Mordaunt and Co. where Jonathan became a partner in 1975. He was the senior dealing partner of the firm on its acquisition by Barclays Bank to form BZW in 1986.

Jonathan developed BZW’s Fixed Income business prior to becoming chief executive of the Global Equities Business in 1991. In 1996 he became deputy chairman of BZW and then vice chairman of Credit Suisse First Boston in 1998 on their acquisition of most of BZW’s businesses. Jonathan focused on the development of Credit Suisse’s Middle Eastern business. Jonathan retired from Credit Suisse in February 2007.


Lord Oxford


Raymond joined the Board in January 2013. He served 18 years with the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office. He spent three years in Moscow (19831985), seven years in the Cabinet Office covering Soviet and East European political, military and economic developments (19851992) and was a founding member of the British Embassy in Kiev (19921997). In 1997 he left British government service to pursue private business interests in the United Kingdom, Eastern Europe and the Middle East, chiefly in energy, agriculture and environmental remediation. In October 2014, Raymond was elected to the House of Lords, the second chamber of the British Parliament.


Geoffrey Wood


Geoffrey was appointed to the Board in 1997. Geoffrey is Professor Emeritus of Economics at Cass Business School, in the City of London, Professor Emeritus of Monetary Economics at the University of Buckingham, and a visiting Professorial Fellow at the Centre for Commercial Law at Queen Mary and Westfield College of London University. He has been visiting Professor at the University of South Carolina and at the National Bureau for Economic Research at Harvard. In addition he is and has been an advisor to a number of Central Banks and City of London financial firms. Geoffrey has a good knowledge of economics generally and monetary and fiscal policy issues specifically.
