Our Heritage

Patient long-term investors – NAV has risen from c. £10m in 1952 to its present level of c. £315m.

Hansa Trust, then called Scottish and Mercantile Investment Trust, has been closely associated with the Salomon Family since the 1950s. The Salomon Family are the beneficiaries of family trusts that are, themselves, substantial shareholders of Hansa Trust. Further, they are actively involved in its management with William Salomon currently serving as a Director of Hansa Trust as well as being the Senior Partner of the Portfolio Manager, Hansa Capital Partners LLP.

William, and before him his father Walter, have contributed greatly in building a public owned and independently run long-term investment vehicle which enables private and professional investors alike to access investments not normally available to them. A perfect example of this approach is the holding in Ocean Wilson Holdings Ltd. In the 1950‘s, Walter saw the opportunity to invest in a Brazilian Infrastructure business and engineered a share swap whereby shareholders of Ocean Wilsons Holdings Ltd received non-voting shares in the Trust. This investment has grown from a cost of £2m to a market value over £100m.
